Classy and comfy this autumn: Men's edition

I'd start with this Sunspel jumper. It's made in Scotland from Super Geelong lambswool. The oatmeal colour goes with almost everything here. Wear it loose over a T-shirt. It works for a coffee or a quiet day at home.

A bit more room

Tight trousers aren't for everyone. Studio Nicholson's Sorte has a high waist and a wide leg. The cotton is brushed for a soft finish. Drake's cords are another good option for colder days. Both look good with a plain jumper and chunky shoes.

A jacket for the weather

The Bedale makes sense when the weather is all over the place. It's waxed cotton with a corduroy collar. There's room for the jumper underneath. Barbour is still family-owned and offers repairs and rewaxing. I like that you can keep looking after it. Take a waterproof for proper rain.

Shoes you'll keep

The Michael has been around since 1945. It has leather uppers and a thick rubber sole. I like the rounded shape with wider trousers. The soles can be replaced too. Give them time to break in before you take them on a long walk.

Suede, if it stays dry

I'd wear this Drake's overshirt on a dry day. The brown suede looks great with oatmeal and navy. It's made in Italy from Tuscan suede. The two chest pockets give it a workwear feel. Leave it open over the jumper. It doesn't need much else.

The slightly odd scarf

The unicorns are a bit odd. That's what I like about this scarf. Drake's started making scarves in 1977, and this print comes from its archive. It's 70% wool and 30% silk. The burgundy adds some colour to all the brown and olive.

Look 1: Coffee in town

This is the first outfit I'd put together. Sunspel jumper, navy Sorte trousers, suede overshirt and Paraboots. Leave the overshirt open. The loose trousers keep it comfortable. It looks good without much effort. Wear it for coffee, a wander round the shops or lunch with a friend.

Look 2: Out for a walk

The Bedale goes over the same jumper. Swap the navy trousers for Drake's cords. Keep the Paraboots on. Add the scarf if it's cold. This is what I'd wear for a family walk and a pub lunch. Check the forecast before you leave.

Look 3: Over for dinner

Keep the cords and shoes on for dinner. Swap the jumper for Sunspel's black merino polo. The collar makes it a bit smarter. It's still a knit, so it doesn't feel formal. Add the scarf for the way there. An easy change before heading to a friend's or having family over.
